graduate degree in financial accounting and HDE. He holds a Swimming South Africa LEV 4
coaching accreditation.
Pierre swam for the SA Schools, SA Student team and National Senior team towards the end
of the apartheid era and held national senior titles in 400m freestyle and 25km open water
swimming.
As head coach of the Matie team Pierre has consistently produced swimmers at the highest
level of junior and senior Swimming. Among others he has coached two Olympians, two
Paralympic medalists including a Paralympic champion, a Junior World champion, a
Commonwealth silver medalist, Multiple swimmers under his guidance have swum at World
Long and Short course championships as well as World University Games.
In his role as performance director of the newly established Lane Leader swim team he
continues to ensure a holistic team ethos and excellence in the pool. Lane Leader has
already produced a Paralympian and two World Junior Champs qualifiers in their first
season.
Keith Jansen moved to Stellenbosch in 2007 to swim under head coach Pierre de Roubaix until 2013. During this time, Keith captained the Maties swimming team and later joined the coaching staff and was manager for the gold winning USSA swimming team in 2015.
His journey as a young coach started at a private school in Franschhoek. He then went on to accept an assistant coaching position under head coach Pierre de Roubaix. Keith was an integral part of the Maties swimming staff until 2016 when he became the head swimming coach at a local triathlon squad.
Keith Jansen comes from a multi-disciplinary background with extensive knowledge in swimming, athletics, biathlon, and triathlon coaching. Keith managed to coach athletes to become SA biathlon Champions, SA Biathlon Record holders culminating in producing a World Champion in Laser run.
As a qualified Swimming South Africa coach, he has been working closely with elite and Olympic level triathletes. Brad Weiss, Flora Duffy, Jamie Riddle and now retired ultra-marathon triathlon specialist James Cunnama regularly turn to Keith and the Lane Leader team for expert swim coaching.
In 2021 Keith produced a Paralympic swimmer Christian Sadie who participated in the 2020 Paralympic games in Tokyo Japan in 5 Paralympic events.
Keith enjoys working in the High-Performance environment as a key Head Coach within the Lane Leader family. His commitment to developing every swimmer to their potential is his dedicated passion.
Karin swam her entire school career in Gauteng and received provincial colours multiple times. After school she started her studies at Stellenbosch University in Sport Science and obtained a PhD in 2004. After working with Maties swimming as a Sport Science consultant for numerous years, she joined the Maties team on a full-time basis in March 2012.
Karin has worked with many elite teams and individuals in numerous sporting codes over the past couple of years. She was the Sport Scientist for the National Women’s Hockey team between 2005- 2010, which included the Olympics in 2008 and the World Champs in 2007 and 2009.
Karin is a certified Level 3 South African Swimming Coach. She was selected as a National coach to the Paralympic Games in 2004 and 2012 and 2016 as well as the IPC World Champs in 2011, 2013 and 2015. She and the rest of the Maties coaching team has coached numerous swimmers to various Olympic Games and also Paralympic and IPC World Champ medals.
Karin Hugo has been the Head Coach of the Olympian Emma Chelius since 2015. Karin has coached Emma to various International Events such as the World Champs, Commonwealth Games, Student World Games and also a semi-final berth at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.
In addition to coaching, Karin also looks after the strength and conditioning and sport science components at the club.
