ABOUT LANE LEADER

The Lane Leader swimming team has been born out of the need for a new Junior swimming club in Stellenbosch during 2020

The Team is however much more than a competitive Swimming club, it is a hub for all things swimming and caters for a large variety of swimming needs:

  • Stroke development program for primary school learners
  • Skills and technique programs for primary school learners
  • Freestyle proficiency program from Grade 6
  • Competition squads
  • Multi swim for triathletes, waterpolo, masters and more
  • Moms and Dads – drop the kids at school and swim for an hour before work
  • Individual sessions

The Lane Leader coaching team has a proud tradition of excellence including Paralympic Gold in 2012, silver medals at Commonwealth games 2002, 2010 and 2018 and world Junior Champion in 2008. The coaching staff has produced multiple Olympians, Paralympians, World Junior and Senior Championships swimmers not to mention the Senior and Junior National and provincial swimmers. The coaches have also prepared multiple Olympic triathletes among them an Olympic Triathlon Champion.

Results at the high-performance level are however only one of the goals for which Lane Leader strives. We also wish to produce self-disciplined and well-adjusted individuals that embody commitment to team, teammates and the sport of swimming. The club strives for each swimmer to achieve a lifelong skill that supports participation in aquatic sports of all kinds.

There is only one gold medal winner but many champions. Any swimmer, who dedicates him or herself to the sport, learns the important life lessons of self-discipline, facing and overcoming adversity and self-fulfilment through giving your very best as a champion in swimming and in life!
